Stay at McDonald Downs
Simple, comfortable and newly renovated cabins available for those travelling through the station or past the front gate with modern bathroom facilities and a kitchenette available.
For larger groups, or those who prefer to, there is space to pitch a tent near the cabins.
We have a minimum group size of two people and can accommodate up to seven guests in the cabins. Travelling solo? Please get in touch with us.
Please note: Accommodation does not include access to travel through the station road. If you wish to continue your journey through the station, a separate access fee applies and must be purchased separately. Please click on our Visit page to arrange access.
Room Configurations
Room One — Cabin & Kitchenette
Our largest cabin, featuring king-single bunk beds, a kitchenette and dining area, plus a pull-out couch for additional sleeping space.
Room Two — Bunk Cabin
A newly renovated cabin with comfortable king-single bunk beds.
Room Three — Queen Cabin
A newly renovated cabin featuring a queen bed, ideal for couples.
Tenting
Prefer to sleep under the stars? Tenting sites are available near the cabins by prior arrangement.
Please note: We only host one group per night, meaning you won't need to share any facilities with other guests,
What’s Included
Pillows and blankets are provided in the cabins. Guests will need to bring their own sleeping bags.
Bathroom Facilities
A toilet is located beside the cabins. Additional modern shower and toilet facilities are available in our newly built woolshed, approximately 200 meters away.
Guests will need to bring their own towels.
Cabin Kitchen Facilities
The cabin kitchenette is equipped with everything you need to prepare simple meals during your stay:

Please note: There is no oven available.
Breakfast & Pantry Essentials
To help you settle in and enjoy an easy start to the day, we aim to have a selection of breakfast and pantry essentials waiting in the cabins, including:

Yoghurt

Condiments
Please note: Items may vary depending on seasonal availability and supply, but we'll always do our best to have a good selection of essentials available for your stay.
Catering
Catering and packed lunches may be available by prior arrangement, subject to availability and a minimum of four people required for catering requests.

Before you arrive
McDonald Downs is a working high-country station, so a little preparation will help you make the most of your stay.
We recommend guests come prepared with:
Sleeping bags and towels
Food for your stay beyond the breakfast essentials provided
Suitable clothing and footwear for changing weather conditions
Any personal items or medications you may need
Please remember that you are staying on a working farm, and conditions can change depending on the weather and farming activities.
